SERVICE LINE NOTICE-Mailing

Many residents will receive the following notice in the mail from the City of Cologne on behalf of MN Department of Health. Minnesota is dedicated to identifying all lead & galvanized water supplies. Many of you have participated in helping the City of Cologne complete the Lead Service Line survey in the past. We are proud to say we have completed the “customer owned classification” of this large undertaking. Which means we have identified all service lines within homes.

Now we switch to “system owned classification” which means the portion of the pipe from the curb stop into homes. The State put a ban on lead January 1, 1985, so if you live in a development that was constructed after 1985 your lines have been documented as non-lead and will not receive notification. If you live in a development/neighborhood constructed before 1985 (even if your home was built after) you will be receiving the notification below.

This means the City is currently unaware of the material your service line is constructed out of. We will be diligently looking back on records and doing inspections as to identify the material and meet MDH’s guidelines & deadlines. If we do find lead or galvanized piping you will be personally notified of the findings.
